Swindon Viewpoint is Swindon and Britain’s original community media service with a unique history and special place in Britain’s media story. Its been called the ultimate digital diary of local life and culture.
I
n 2007 we took a leap and began moving the vast collection online. I developed an online presence around the Drupal content management system and digital workflows for the fragile archive content. It’s now the greatest collection of creative films on everyday life of any town in the country; – from 1913 (the earliest) right up to today. We have 1000s of unique visitors every month and more and more new and archive content becoming available all the time.
Later on we developed an early mobile service to allow local people to find content produced near their current location via GPS.
